I know everyone is going apoplectic over Pope Francis’ visit to America. Meanwhile, the news media has been in a feeding frenzy over the dark specter of a Muslim running for president. Donald Trump is on his own “jihad” against Fox News. But something else is happening that has far greater ramifications — the Middle East strategy meltdown of President Barack Obama. We reported here about the $500 million spent to train 54 Syrian rebels, all of whom, save 4 or 5, have been killed or captured by the Jabhat al-Nusra Front, an offshoot of al-Qaida in Syria. This was the vaunted and celebrated — well by the liberal progressive left – “strategy” of President Obama, and now we see it has failed…unless you think 4 or 5 guys running around Syria is success?
Now a new revelation evinces Obama’s continued strategic policy blunder, as reported by Bloomberg View, “President Barack Obama is about to lose the man he hand-picked to build the war effort against the Islamic State. Retired General John Allen will be stepping down as envoy to the global coalition this fall, and the White House is searching for a replacement to be the face of America’s flailing effort to destroy the jihadist group in Syria and Iraq.
Allen will leave government service in the coming weeks, four administration officials told us. State Department officials said they were not ready to officially announce Allen’s departure, but he has notified his superiors he will give up his job in early November, after serving just over one year. His chief of staff, Karin von Hippel, will also depart, to join a British think tank.
The timing of Allen’s departure could not be worse for the Obama administration. The incoming Marine Corps Commandant, Lieutenant General Robert Neller, testified last month that the war is at a “stalemate.” Last week, the head of the U.S. Central Command, General Lloyd Austin, testified that of the 54 Syrian rebels trained and equipped by the U.S. military, only “4 or 5” were still in the fight. And now the Pentagon is investigating allegations by dozens of intelligence analysts that their reporting on the progress in the war effort was altered before being given to top officials.U.S. officials familiar with Allen’s decision say he has been frustrated with White House micromanagement of the war and its failure to provide adequate resources to the fight. He unsuccessfully tried to convince the administration to allow U.S. tactical air control teams to deploy on the ground to help pick targets for air strikes in Iraq. Allen also tried several times to convince the White House to agree to Turkish demands for a civilian protection zone in Syria, to no avail. Nonetheless, administration officials stress that Allen’s decision to leave his post was motivated mainly by the health of his wife, who suffers from an auto-immune disorder.”
First of all, I would presume General Allen’s wife suffered from this disorder a year ago when he took the position. And it seems funny to me that a similar reason was given for the early departure of U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM) Commanding General Carter Ham, right after the Benghazi debacle — an inconvenient truth. And you have to wonder, just who is doing the “White House micromanagement of the war” — Generals Valerie Jarrett and Susan Rice? Folks this is what we call in the military a “Charlie Foxtrot,” and at a time when Russia now has troops deployed in Syria, it has descended into FUBAR status.
But let me call this to your attention: has anyone articulated the chain of command for our troops in the Iraq/Syria AOR (area of responsibility)? I mean, we’ve been deploying piecemeal troops here and there — what is the command and control structure? I think General Allen finally came to realize he was just window dressing for the Obama administration who didn’t want to lose control over this situation.
We know Obama has already blamed his strategy failure on his critics by saying, “they made me do it because I didn’t want to.” What a childish response. Why would Obama bring in a retired general to head up an effort when you have a U.S. Central Command Commander, General Lloyd Austin, as well as a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs? These are the requisite experts to make recommendations on the execution of operations. And there should have been an on-the -ground operational theater (not Broadway for my liberal progressive friends) commander who would be reporting to the CENTCOM CG.What is the command and control architecture in the theater at this time? Or could it be that Obama, Jarrett, and Rice believe themselves so savvy in strategic and operational level military decision making that they are running this operation from 1600 Pennsylvania — just like President Johnson tried to do during Vietnam, and President Carter did during the failed Desert One rescue operation.
I just have to ask, will the first Democrat debate ask the question about Obama’s failed policies in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia — yes, complete and abject failure? Will the Democrat debate moderators ask of Hillary Clinton about the “Russian reset button” and her support of the destabilizing operation in Libya? Will the Democrat debate moderators ask of Senator Bernie Sanders how he would restore American respect and regard and if he believes the withdrawal of all U.S; forces from Iraq was a good decision? Not holding my breath.“When Allen was named to his post in September 2014, he initially planned on staying for six months. He agreed to stay on for another six at the request of Secretary of State John Kerry earlier this year. In the short term, his responsibilities are expected to be passed on to his deputy, Ambassador Brett McGurk. But the White House eventually wants to find a big-name replacement for Allen, who as a four-star Marine Corps general led the international force in Afghanistan from 2011 to 2013.
Finding someone to take the job won’t be easy. Just before he became Obama’s lead official in the fight against the Islamic State, Allen wrote an op-ed article in which he called the group a “clear and present danger to the U.S.” and said it “must be destroyed” quickly, using capabilities and power only the U.S. can bring to bear. Just over one year later, the president has yet to commit to a real plan to “degrade and destroy” the Islamic State, as he has repeatedly said is his goal. Until that changes, Allen’s replacement will face the same roadblocks that he did, and the war against the Islamic State will continue to flounder.”
President Obama effectively used General Allen as cover for his failure and as a messenger to validate that failure. In my assessment, General Allen could only take this for so long. And I’m quite sure Obama will find another puppet to do his bidding — after all there are always those who seek personal elevation. Maybe Obama will call upon General Wesley Clark? But something tells me the internal Society of Retired Generals are already making the calls and advising standing down. It wouldn’t surprise me if Obama tries to go to recently retired Army Generals Dempsey or Odierno – I’d advise them to say no.
The liberal progressive media will do everything to hide and cover for Obama on the issue of the disintegration of the Middle East. There is no more water in the “Blame Bush” well — but the left will drink dirt in order to mask this horrific foreign policy and national security debacle.
Barack Obama and the progressive socialists of the Democrat Party own this — and like Adam and Eve who sought to hide their nakedness from God in the Garden of Eden, we see them. And just as God cast out Adam and Eve — the American people shall in due time cast out these Democrats from their Garden of Eden, Washington DC.
