After staying out of sight for over a month, Walter Palmer, the dentist who killed Cecil the lion said he will return to work today. Not surprisingly, all the protests and threats aimed at him over this incident have caused him great distress. However, Palmer still believes he acted legally and was stunned to find out he’d killed a treasured animal in Zimbabwe. In an interview Sunday evening conducted jointly by The Associated Press and the Minneapolis Star Tribune that advisers said would be the only one granted, Palmer said, “If I had known this lion had a name and was important to the country or a study obviously I wouldn’t have taken it. Nobody in our hunting party knew before or after the name of this lion.”
Cecil was a fixture in the vast Hwange National Park and had been fitted with a GPS collar as part of Oxford University lion research. Palmer said he shot the big cat with the black mane using an arrow from his compound bow outside the park’s borders but it didn’t die immediately. He disputed conservationist accounts that the wounded lion wandered for 40 hours and was finished off with a gun, saying it was tracked down the next day and killed with an arrow.
Palmer will be dealing with this for a while yet. He is still facing extradition, but no steps are formally being taken to make that happen. Yet, when I look at this story and how the Hollywood left has spun it, it sickens me. Let’s just say for argument’s sake that Palmer knew what he was doing. How does that line up with Planned Parenthood knowingly selling baby parts for profit?
How far have we sunk in this country where an animal holds more apparent value than a human life? Does Palmer, who was hunting a wild animal deserve more backlash than a killer of babies? I mean Palmer didn’t sell the head, the coat, or the body parts of Cecil.
I think the fact this big cat had a name makes a difference here. I wonder if the thousands of babies that Planned Parenthood kills each year actually had names, would that make a difference? The fact is, the value of human life now has an actual value. There’s a price tag associated with unnamed humans and their body parts. Excuse me, I mean partially-born humans.“An avid sportsman, Palmer shut off several lines of inquiry about the hunt during the interview, including how much he paid for it or others he has undertaken. No videotaping or photographing of the interview was allowed. During the 25-minute interview, Palmer gazed intensely at his questioners, often fiddling with his hands and turning occasionally to an adviser, Joe Friedberg, to field questions about the fallout and his legal situation.”
Courts have tried to ban the release of further videos of Planned Parenthood discussing the sale of baby parts. This in itself is disturbing. What else are they trying to hide? All the while the video of Palmer and Cecil the lion got major news coverage and scrutiny.
“Cecil’s killing set off a fierce debate over trophy hunting in Africa. Zimbabwe tightened regulations for lion, elephant and leopard hunting after the incident, and three major U.S. airlines changed policies to ban shipment of the trophies.”As I see it the main difference in all of this is Palmer paid to go on a hunt and made a tragic mistake. Planned Parenthood makes a profit intentionally and tries to cover it up.
