Last week this time, my daughter Aubrey and I were completing our drive from South Florida to Dallas, a straight 16-hour trip. Today we had a fantastic first Sunday as daddy and daughter. I had a splendid early morning five-mile run in the rain and then we enjoyed a beautiful service and message at Watermark Community Church.But what topped it all off was the Sunday lunch Aubrey and I had at Pecan Lodge BBQ located in the Deep Ellum area of Dallas. The owner Justin Fourton has a REALLY special place there and let me tell ya — the BBQ is off the chain!!!
What was best however, were the collard greens, and coming from Georgia, I know a thing or two about good collard greens. I have never tasted any collards so well seasoned and just scrumptious.
The atmosphere at Pecan Lodge was the best as you can see from the pictures. Needless to say, once Angela and Austen arrive, a Sunday West family tradition will be spending time with Justin and the folks at Pecan Lodge. Oh yeah, and by the looks of Justin, they do indeed grow them big in Texas!
