Greetings folks from the road. I stayed overnight in Moss Point/Pascagoula Mississippi as I’m heading back to South Florida for our daughter Aubrey’s college graduation from Nova Southeastern University. I will load up her U-Haul trailer to tow her gear back to Dallas, as she’ll begin her Masters degree studies at SMU. Doggone traffic in Houston was wicked. I was planning on making it to Pensacola but stopped at midnight in Mississippi instead.Anyway, I wanted to share this story with you, which perfectly illustrates the saying, “with friends like these, who needs enemies.”
As reported by the Jerusalem Post, “In testimony last week before the House committee in charge of State Department funding, US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power acknowledged that the Obama administration intends to abandon the US’s 50 year policy of supporting Israel at the United Nations. After going through the tired motions of pledging support for Israel, “when it matters,” Power refused to rule out the possibility that the US would support anti-Israel resolutions in the UN Security Council to limit Israeli sovereignty and control to the lands within the 1949 armistice lines – lines that are indefensible.”
“Such a move will be taken, she indicated, in order to midwife the establishment of a terrorist-supporting Palestinian state whose supposedly moderate leadership does not recognize Israel’s right to exist, calls daily for its destruction, and uses the UN to delegitimize the Jewish state. In other words, the Obama administration intends to pin Israel into indefensible borders while establishing a state committed to its destruction. ”
Apparently President Obama is going to use his pen on Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu and his country — supposedly our best allies in the Middle East. This is the Obama Doctrine. When he cannot get what he wants via the process of leading and making a case, he just side steps anyone deemed an obstacle – not until demonizing them first. We have seen this with the GOP legislative branch and now with Israel.First, he is driven by the wanton desire to have an unprecedented foreign policy achievement, albeit rather dubious, in nuclear negotiations with Iran. Second, there will be a “Palestinian” state before he departs the White House — come hell or high water!
So his preferred course of action will be to side with the other despots, dictators, theocrats and autocrats that run the United Nations and by force of will and coercion, cause Israel to capitulate. And I’m quite sure if anyone were to query the former Secretary of State who is running for president – which would be difficult, considering she’s not answering any inquiries – she would most likely carry forth this aspect of the Obama foreign policy doctrine.
You know there is a part of me – as well as many of you — who would like to tell the American Jewish community, “I told ya so.” Then again, what difference at this point does it make?”The Jerusalem Post says, “The Democratic Party has become far more radical under Obama’s leadership than it was before he came into office. Hillary Clinton may very well become the next president, particularly if Jeb Bush is the Republican nominee. And she has evinced no significant interest in moving the party back to the center.”
It seems this writer, Caroline Glick, has already cast her vote as to whom she does not want to see as the GOP nominee. And so as Prime Minister Netanyahu gets his fragile coalition together — 61 votes out of 120 — he is faced with an immediate problem.
Glick writes, “As tempting as it may seem to “wait out” Obama, that may not be a viable option. Israel must quickly determine clear strategies for contending with the consequence of US’s strategic shift away from its allies, Iran’s nuclear project. It must also determine the principles that will guide its moves in contending with the regional instability engulfing or threatening to engulf our Arab neighbors.”
And if the result of today’s UK elections go sideways and the Labour Party candidate Miliband wins, Israel truly has no ally there either, especially after what we wrote about this cheeky fella and who he’s courting.
These are indeed dark days for Israel and these final 18 months of the Obama rule may prove a greater mountain to overcome than any of us expected for Israel.
This goes beyond abandonment. It is the purposeful intent to usher in Israel’s demise. When you consider the lack of regard and recognition from most of its neighbors — except Egypt and Jordan — the Israelis find themselves in a treacherous position.
There’s no doubt Israel can make a stand and fight, but who will reinforce and support? Certainly not the Obama administration that threatened to cut off Hellfire missile support during the last conflagration with Hamas. And as it seems most Israelis know, as Secretary of State during Obama’s first term in office, Hillary Clinton, was a full partner in his foreign policy. She may try to appear less ideologically-driven than Obama, but given her recent policy flip flops on trade, immigration, and crime, the indications are already that her basic world view is the same as his. After all, as first lady, she and President Bill Clinton were all chummy with the original Islamic terrorist, Yasser Arafat.
How ironic — this week is the 70th Anniversary of V-E Day, the Allied victory over the Nazis in World War II. Last week was the 70th Anniversary of the liberation of Dachau by the American 45th Infantry Division. The world once said in unison, “never again” — but apparently President Obama has a different perspective.
