Too much sex in colleges? Check out THIS student housing option.

Wesleyan University was founded as an all-male Methodist college in 1831, an independent institution under the auspices of the Methodist conference.

In 1872, Wesleyan was one of the first U.S. colleges to allow a small number of women to attend, known as the “Wesleyan Experiment.” However, in 1909, the board of trustees began to fear the school was losing its “masculine image” and voted to stop admitting women, which it continued until 1970.

MY how things have changed. Now Wesleyan not only accepts women, but every other gender and/or preference in between. In fact, just take a gander at this page from the Wesleyan website regarding student housing at the appropriately-named “Open House.”

In case you can’t read the “fine print,” I’m happy to assist:

Open House is a safe space for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Queer, questioning, Flexual, Asexual, Genderf**k, Polyamourous, Bondage/Disciple, Dominance/Submission, Sadism/Masochism (LGBTTQQFAGPBDSM) communities and for people of sexually or gender dissident communities. The goals of Open House include generating interest in a celebration of queer life from the social to the political to the academic. Open House works to create a Wesleyan community that appreciates the variety and vivacity of gender, sex and sexuality.

Soo…just some thoughts (or should I say “queries”) off the top of my head:

1. Isn’t there an EASIER acronym than LGBTTQQFAGPBDSM? My automobile VIN number is more memorable.
2. If you are asexual, why would you want to live amongst all these folks appreciating the variety and vivacity of THEIR sex and sexuality when you really have no interest at all?
3. What exactly makes you a gender dissident? I understand political dissidents – you’re against the prevailing party, right? So if you’re a gender dissident, does that mean you’re protesting the whole idea of gender, or just the gender you’re not (or the one you don’t identify with…for now)?
4. Why is it a celebration of “queer” life? I thought all of this was now the new normal?

Gee, it sure was a lot less complex on the Wesleyan campus years ago. But X and Y chromosomes are just SO primitive these days.
