Eggs up! Don’t scramble! You may have heard about the string of Black Brunch protests across Georgia this weekend.
In case you missed it, black protestors have taken the struggle to end racial oppression where it hurts white folks the most: brunch.
Yes, that mid-morning Sunday ritual is apparently too much the repository of “white privilege,” so protestors, clad in black t-shirts descended on a number of Atlanta-area restaurants to remind diners that #BlackLivesMatter.
However, as blogger Douglas Ernst notes, if black lives matter so much, why don’t they stop killing each other?Ernst took a peek into crime statistics in Atlanta and found that of the 84 murders in 2014, the vast majority of victims were black. He took a cursory view at the FBI Uniform Reporting statistics for the Atlanta Police Department.
I actually went through every single month for 2014 and per the data presented, only TWO homicides for the year showed a white offender against a black victim. The rest were black on black.Indeed, author Jason Riley goes so far as to say homicide is the leading cause of death for young black men in the U.S., but around 90 percent of the perpetrators are also black. Around 98 percent of black shooting deaths do not involve police.
Riley goes on to say, “any candid debate on race and criminal justice in this country would have to start with the fact that blacks commit an astoundingly disproportionate number of crimes. Blacks constitute about 13 percent of the population, yet between 1976 and 2005 they committed more than half of all murders in the U.S.”“The Left wants to blame these outcomes on racial animus and poverty, but back in the 1940s and ’50s, when racial discrimination was legal and black poverty was much higher than today, the black crime rate was lower.”
“If liberals want to help reverse these crime trends, they would do better to focus less on supposed racial animus and more on ghetto attitudes towards school, work, marriage, and child-rearing.”
But to mention that would be “racist.” So much better to target eggs benedict and bottomless mimosas, because clearly that’s where the problem lies.
