Military strategy for lefties

I do enjoy the humor progressive socialists provide. The last opportunity to laugh at chuckleheads was their insistence that ISIS was not attempting to close in on al-Asad Base in Iraq — it was an overblown story. But there are hundreds of Marine advisors/trainers at that location with an ISIS force just 5 miles away in al-Baghdadi.

Let me help certain folks understand something. No, ISIS cannot overrun that base, but they can certainly use the assault as propaganda. America must go on offense. We cannot afford to withdraw those Marines. That’s precisely what ISIS wants more than anything, to say they forced American Marines to run away — just as the Yemeni rebels can boast of forcing American Marines to flee without their weapons.

ISIS must be made to pay in Anbar province — and yes, I stand by the proposition to use flamethrowers against ISIS strongpoints. Again, lefties seem to have no grasp of tactics.

Now, I must ask, if we had such an effective air campaign, how was ISIS able to freely move in the open desert towards the town of al-Baghdadi in the first place?

And just so all the great progressive socialist military strategists understand, you can use the F-22 in a ground attack mode — it has a 20mm cannon and would be ideal to attack columns of vehicles moving in the open. I did however, make a mistake — no, not like Brian Williams, misremembering. I wrote AV-1B Harrier when I meant AV-8B Harrier.

If the detractors had any understanding, they would have realized I was presenting a solution of an aerial task force — F-22s, AV-8Bs, A-10s and attack helicopters in providing an air CAP that would isolate ISIS, preventing reinforcement, maneuvering and escape.

Funny, I wonder if I would need to explain the same to Valerie Jarrett, Susan Rice, and Barack Obama? I know, you folks on the left just hate it when the truth comes out and it embarrasses this administration — we hate it too, that our military continues to be embarrassed by this administration.

Oops, and I forgot, where is Bowe Bergdahl? In case y’all didn’t know, there was a Pentagon report done in 2010 that already concluded Bergdahl was a deserter — so why do we need another report? And it doesn’t take a general five months to figure out desertion. But I digress — validly so however.

And in the continuing saga of foreign policy and national security faux pas of the Obama administration, we have the current Russia-Ukraine conflagration. This is not a laughing matter as Vladimir Putin is not known for using a selfie stick.

As reported by The U.K. Guardian, “Fighting between government and rebel forces in eastern Ukraine trailed off in the first hours after a midnight ceasefire began – but steady shelling resumed later in the morning near the besieged city of Debaltseve. Kiev and the breakaway republics in the east said fighting had quietened and the ceasefire was mostly being observed. But the Guardian heard mortar fire to the east of Luhanske on the highway to Debaltseve, where up to 8,000 Ukrainian troops have been under rebel attack for weeks. The UN security council was convening an emergency session on Sunday to hear a Russian resolution on the conflict in eastern Ukraine.”

Remember it was on a Monday that former U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced the cutting of the U.S. Army and the A-10 aerial platform and by week’s end, Russian supported separatists had taken Crimea.

The world in which we are now living doesn’t respect speeches or self-promoting videos. It is a world of despots, dictators, theocrats, autocrats, and Islamic terrorists — just ask Denmark or Coptic Christians. Of course Russia has threatened it would see any U.S. weapons support to Ukraine as an act of war — hmm, methinks we’re already there. Check out who is supplying the “Russian backed” separatists to fight against a sovereign nation.

This recalcitrance to assist Ukraine has to send a chilling to the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania — not to mention Poland. And as the UK Guardian presents, Russia, in other words, Putin, cannot be trusted to maintain any semblance of a ceasefire — what would be the motivation, or consequences, to do so?

While I applaud her effort, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is not the Iron Maiden, Lady Margaret Thatcher, and sitting her at the table with Putin is not exactly reassuring — well, it is to Putin. It serves to reassure him he’ll be able to act with impunity.

According to the Guardian, “There’s no ceasefire here,” said a Ukrainian soldier who would give only his first name, Andrei. “It’s a present from Putin,” joked another soldier, gesturing in the direction of the shelling. The soldiers said Ukrainian forces were not shooting back, but some of the shelling to the east of Luhanske sounded like outgoing fire. Ukrainian army command said its forces were observing the ceasefire but would return fire if attacked or if the rebels shelled residential areas.”

Americans must be reminded of two interesting occurrences: the “reset” button presented to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the famous “off mike” comment, “tell Vladimir after reelection, I will have more flexibility.”

The first was done by a wannabee president, the other by a president running for a second term. Well, I suppose I could say, “what difference at this point does it make?” I guess you can ask that question to the people in Crimea and elsewhere in eastern Ukraine — or even ask the victims of the Malaysian Air flight shot down by Putin’s thugs.

Sadly, America continues to show leadership from behind. “In a telephone call with Ukranian President Poroshenko hours before the start of the ceasefire, U.S. president Barack Obama expressed his “deep concern about the ongoing violence, particularly in and around Debaltseve.”

“The White House said in a statement that the two leaders “emphasized the pressing need” for all parties to implement the ceasefire and agreed to remain in contact in the coming days.” Perhaps Obama should have considered this before the “flexibility” moment.

“Obama also spoke with German chancellor Angela Merkel who took a lead role in negotiating the ceasefire agreement. U.S. secretary of state, John Kerry, spoke to his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov (recipient of the reset button) on Saturday, urging full implementation of the Minsk agreements, including a midnight ceasefire.”

And what was Vladimir Putin’s response? “Speaking after the Minsk agreements, Putin suggested Debaltseve was fully surrounded and Ukrainian forces should agree to abandon it, but Kiev has insisted that it is not cut off and will remain government territory.”

Despotic leaders know when they’re operating from the aspect of the moral high ground — which we are definitely not holding.
