We continue to hear about the restraint Israel must show in defending its survival. In the meantime, around three-dozen complex tunnels were uncovered in Gaza leading to Israel. Over the weekend, some twelve to fourteen Hamas jihadists used one of those tunnels to infiltrate into Israel — wearing Israeli uniforms. Ten were killed.Everyone gets riled up about children losing their lives in the conflict but no one addresses the reason why they’re in harm’s way in the first place. Maybe if Hamas stopped hiding rockets in schools, it would help.
According to the Washington Free Beacon, ” At least 20 rockets were discovered last week in a Gaza school run by the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which operates several schools in Gaza and elsewhere. Israeli officials claimed on Sunday that the weapons were given back to Hamas, but Western sources familiar with the case say that they were turned over to “local authorities” working under the Palestinian unity government.”
In other words, they were given back to Hamas.
“There is absolutely no evidence that UNRWA handed the rockets over to Hamas,” a Western diplomat working on the issue told the Free Beacon. “The authorities who came and collected the weapons are under the direct authority of the government of national consensus which Hamas has left and which many in Hamas are openly hostile to.”ReaIly? I’d like to see the “chain of custody” as to the handling of these rockets before I believe that assertion. I’m also waiting for this information to be the lead story on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, PBS, and MSNBC — yeah, I know, don’t hold my breath.
As you probably know by now, I’ve been in the combat zone against Islamic terrorist and jihadis, and this is how they do business. Not only in schools but weapons are cached in mosques and burial grounds, because as they are fully aware, these are according to our rules of engagement, restricted fire areas (RFAs).
“According to longstanding U.N. practice in U.N. humanitarian operations worldwide, incidents involving unexploded ordnance that could endanger beneficiaries and staff are referred to the local authorities,” UNRWA spokesman Chris Gunness told the Free Beacon in a statement. “Immediately after the discovery of the rockets, UNRWA proactively informed the relevant parties and successfully took all necessary measures for the removal of the objects in order to preserve the safety and security of the school,” Gunness said. “Local authorities fall under the government of national consensus in Ramallah. They pledged to pass a message to all parties not to violate UNRWA neutrality.”“However, local authorities in the Gaza Strip, including the police, are under the control of Hamas. UNRWA did not respond to further Free Beacon questions attempting to discern the exact authorities or government branch the weapons were handed over to.”
So let’s be on the lookout for international condemnation of Hamas for using a UNRWA built school as a storage site for rockets. Waiting…waiting…And by the way, the U.S. is the major donor to the U.N., so chances are American taxpayer dollars built the school used as an ammunition depot by Hamas, against Israel. Remind me again why we fund the U.N.?
