Here it is, time for weekend sports stress relief and amazingly enough we are at the end of college football season. You know what that means? Yes, rivalry games, and this weekend has already begun with Thursday evening’s Texas victory over Texas Tech and Mississippi State’s surprise OT victory in the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss.Of course the rivalry game that everyone will be watching this weekend will be the Iron Bowl, when Alabama travels to Auburn. That game will decide the winner of the SEC West, but could possibly determine one of the teams for the college national championship.
The other match-ups with national championship implications are Florida State vs Florida — probably going to be an ugly day for Gator fans — and Ohio State going into the Big House to face the Michigan Wolverines. Both Florida State and Ohio State are undefeated, but will still have conference championship games even after winning this final game.
As for me, well, not exactly a thrilling college football season for my favorite teams, Tennessee and Kansas State. However they will be facing rivals Kentucky and Kansas respectively. Tennessee plays Kentucky for the ol’ whiskey barrel.
There are plenty of other big time rivalry games, including Oregon vs Oregon State, the Civil War; the battle for Los Angeles, USC vs UCLA; the fight for the Palmetto state, Clemson vs South Carolina. What’s your big rivalry game for this weekend in college football, and what is the coveted trophy for which they are playing? In the NFL this week we have the rematch, already, between the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs, this time in Arrowhead Stadium. Both teams are coming off tough losses, but I think the Chiefs avenge their loss to the Broncos.
But the game which could be the prelude to the NFC Championship pits New Orleans, “Who Dat”, against the 10-1 Seattle Seahawks. The game is in Seattle so I’m leaning to the Seahawks becoming 11-1.
Hope you all had a wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving, and after the turkey, there’s always lots of football!
