Why every day is Veterans Day in the US

To my warrior brothers and sisters, Happy Veterans Day. God bless you for your willingness to stand guard upon freedom’s ramparts to protect our beloved Republic.

Today we are being recognized but always remember — every day in America is Veterans Day. In our veins we carry the legacy of the Minutemen of Lexington and Concord. Our hearts beat just as those who stood at the Battle of New Orleans. We march to the sound of the guns just as those brave men of the Civil War who bled to preserve this Union.

We have left our homes and the warm embrace of our loved ones just as the Doughboys and Devil Dogs of the trenches, the Marne, the Meuse-Argonne.

We ask a holy blessing upon those of our Greatest Generation who carried the banner of liberty into the Pacific and across Europe defeating the horrible scourge of Nazism, fascism, and Japanese imperialism.

Our brothers and sisters will never be forgotten, those who braved the hills and mountains of Korea, the chill of the Chosin Reservoir. We say welcome home to those who braved the heat, driving rains, the jungles of Vietnam…including my own big brother. To those who stared down the communist enemy and enabled the wall to fall, liberating the rest of the European continent. For those who have endured the harshness of the modern battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan fighting against an old foe from our early history, Islamic totalitarianism.

We are the reason there is an America. It has been and always will be our service, sacrifice, and commitment that ensures this Republic will endure.

To the politicians who will be asked to speak at Veterans Day observances, if you have never served, do not pontificate about your voting record or resolutions that you have supported. Just take the podium and say two words, thank you, then sit down.

Veterans Day is the one day when this great exceptional nation can gaze into the eyes of history and hear the stories of heroes and their fallen buddies who are no longer with us. This day is the day you can look into the eyes of a man or woman who was willing to give that last full measure of devotion for you.

This is the day to walk amongst giants — all of them gave some, and there are some who gave all.

Today, I will speak to our American children at Wellington Christian School and at my own daughter’s school. I will tell them that Veterans are the embodiment of the fundamental principle of Christianity, the willingness to lay down one’s life for another.

Never forget, we all took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic. For us, America’s honored warriors, there is no statute of limitations on that oath.
