When I was in the Army undergoing deployment briefings, Commanders always reviewed the slide presentations given to soldiers. As a Battalion Commander, I ensured we had a rehearsal of the pre-deployment briefing because this was a training event and important that we prepared our soldiers and their families. To read as Fox News reported that the US Army had allowed pre-deployment briefings categorizing entities such as the American Family Association and the Family Research Council as extremist hate groups is very alarming, especially since they were coming from a counter-intelligence briefing officer.
For our men and women in uniform to be briefed, actually intimidated, into believing they will be punished for their own personal donations to Christian groups should alarm senior Army leadership.
However, as our allies at The Black Sphere pointed out, thankfully these briefings have been halted.
But what remains of grave concern to me is that these briefing slides were not standard Army issue or approved. Seems there are individuals in the Army who were using the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) website as a reference, which is truly non-standard operating procedure. We reported on the efforts of Mikey Weinstein and his Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) in attacking the US Air Force Academy’s Honor code. And now this coming from the US Army.General Ray Odierno stated the Army has not trained in six months and only possesses two combat ready brigades. It appears to me we are not training in our primary mission but instead allowing secular humanists to attempt to intimidate our warriors. Where is our senior leadership?
