As police continue hot on the trail of the suspected shooter who killed a reporter and her cameraman live on air this morning, they have identified both the shooter and his possible motive.
According to Heavy:
The man suspected of killing a Virginia TV news reporter and cameraman during a live broadcast has been identified as a disgruntled former employee.
Lester Lee Flanagan is wanted in connection with the shooting, according to WUSA.
Few details have been released, but Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe said during a radio interview on WTOP that investigators believe the gunman is a disgruntled ex-employee of WDBJ.
According to WUSA, “He was described as a light skinned black male, with brown eyes and black hair, 6 foot 3 inches tall and approximately 250 pounds. They believe he is armed with a handgun.”
According to live reports, an arrest may be imminent. Thanks to cameraman Adam Ward’s last act — right before he was shot — police had images of the shooter to help them identify and track him. So we should soon know more about what drove such a horrific crime and bring justice for the victims and their families. In the meantime, families and friends mourn these victims, reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward, who were described as “lighting up a room.” Both were in relationships with co-workers at the station, according to the Associated Press:
WDBJ spokesman Mike Morgan says 27-year-old Adam Ward was engaged to a producer at the station, Melissa Ott.
Morgan says Adam had been with the station for four years.
Morgan says: “Adam was our go-to guy. He pretty much was available to do anything that we asked. He did live shots during our morning show for several years.”
Also killed in the incident – at 6:45 a.m. at a shopping center overlooking a manmade lake – was reporter Alison Parker, who was dating the station’s 6 p.m. anchor, Chris Hurst.
We all continue to pray for the victims and their families and loved ones, while police move to bring this man to justice.
