It doesn’t happen very often that the liberal media corrects mistruths being spread by Democrat candidates, so when it does happen, we notice. This morning, when former Democratic National Committee chairman — and Hillary Clinton surrogate — Howard Dean tried to deny Democrat presidential hopeful Hillary had ever received hundreds of thousands of dollars in speaking fees from colleges, Dean was firmly corrected by his MSNBC hosts.
Former Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean tried to claim on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Wednesday that Hillary Clinton had never received hundreds of thousands of dollars in speaking fees from colleges, only to be shot down by the show’s executive producer later in the segment.
Host Mika Brzezinski first brought up Clinton’s speaking fees, asking whether they’d be a problem when it came to relating to college students. “These kids… will be strapped with $90,000 in debt or $120,000 in debt and she’s making $225,000 in one hour,” she pointed out.
But Dean took umbrage at that suggestion. “She’s not getting $225,000 for speeches in front of colleges,” he insisted.
“Yes, she is!” co-host Joe Scarborough said.“No, she’s not,” Dean said obstinately. “Which colleges?”
“Howard, it’s a matter of record!” Scarborough said. “Alex, Google it and we’ll give him the answer in 10 seconds.”
A few minutes later, Morning Joe executive producer and beer-shotgunning expert Alex Korman cut in to read off what he had found: “UNLV in October of 2014, she got $225,000. Then a month later, UCLA, she got $300,000.”Watch for yourself:
One might give Dean some credit for admitting he was wrong — and offering to “humbly eat crow” — in the face of black-and-white evidence to prove it. However, the cynical part of me wonders why Dean would so forcefully proclaim such a “fact” as Hillary not being paid exorbitant amounts for college speaking engagements when he apparently had no idea. Or is it just that he, too, has partaken so freely of the Hillary Kool-Aid — and once you say or hear a lie enough, you start to actually believe it as truth?
Naturally, the truth about Hillary’s outrageous speaking fees from colleges is rather inconvenient to her narrative about her commitment to easing student debt — or being “for” the middle class. But then again, the truth in general appears to be rather inconvenient to Hillary.
It’s refreshing to see the likes of MSNBC actually calling out the truth when liberal candidates — or, in this case, their surrogates — try to stretch or obfuscate it. If they’d done more of that back in 2008 and 2012, we might not have had to endure 8 years of an Obama presidency that gets more disastrous by the day.
Let’s hope the media can stand up for truth more and help save us from a Hillary Clinton presidency.
