The polls have just closed, and already multiple news outlets are projecting Hillary Clinton will win the South Carolina Democratic primary, beating rival Bernie Sanders by a handy margin.
Hillary Clinton will win the South Carolina Democratic primary, CNN projects, proving the strength of her diverse Southern firewall and restoring her position as the undisputed front-runner in her party’s race for the White House heading into Super Tuesday.
The victory is her strongest yet in the 2016 primary contest. She narrowly won the Iowa caucuses and was trounced by Bernie Sanders in the New Hampshire primary. Clinton won the Nevada caucuses decisively by five percentage points.
Now, Clinton aides are reportedly quietly hoping to beat Bernie Sanders by more than the +22 point margin he won by in NH. Some polls projected Clinton wining South Carolina by as much as 30 points, so their aim certainly would appear well within the realm of possibility.[Note: This article was written by Michelle Jesse, Associate Editor]
