To most of us, saying that the mainstream media is biased against Donald Trump seems like common sense. After all, we’ve all watched the news and heard the stories — it’s plainly obvious. Yet, when President Trump calls networks like CNN “fake news,” people complain he’s being hostile to the media and threatening the First Amendment.
Of course, the truth is that the media is hostile to Trump, not the other way around. Just how hostile are they? Well, a new report revealed just how bad the problem has become in stunning detail.
From the Washington Times:
There was no press honeymoon for President Trump during his first month in office. A meticulous new study by the Media Research Center finds that 88 percent of the broadcast news coverage of Mr. Trump and his team was “hostile” during the first 30 days of office.
The coverage was intense and plentiful. The study, which analyzed both tone and content for evening newscasts on ABC, NBC and CBS, found that the “Big Three” networks produced 16 hours of coverage on the new president and his staff. That is over half — 54 percent — of their total coverage for the month.
Perhaps what makes this even more stunning is the fact that it only accounts for the 3 major networks. Can you imagine how bad it would look if CNN or MSNBC were included in the statistics?
What’s worse, evening newscasts are supposed to be a public service, yet somehow they have morphed into a partisan witch hunt. Instead of just reporting the news to the American people, networks are editorializing the events:
“In their coverage of Trump’s first month, the networks crowded their stories with quotes from citizens angry about many of his policies, while providing relatively little airtime to Trump supporters.” the pair noted. “And the networks’ anchors and reporters often injected their own anti-Trump editorial tone into the coverage. ‘It has been a busy day for presidential statements divorced from reality,’ CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley snidely began his February 6 broadcast.
The report helps verify what the Trump team has been saying all along, there will not be any fair coverage of his presidency. Thankfully, the American people have become wise to the bias in news reporting, and is less likely to be fooled by unfair coverage.
The reality is that the public’s trust in the mainstream media is eroding at a record pace. Thanks to this report, we know there is good reason for that.
