President Trump plans HUGE announcement…

During the campaign season, a lot of attention was focused on Trump’s plans to secure the border, combat terrorism, and fix the economy. Although these are all very important issues, one of the most important issues facing the country did not get as much attention — the Supreme Court.

Following the death of Antonin Scalia, Senate Republicans decided not to consider any potential candidates to fill the Supreme Court vacancy until after the election. The move was highly controversial, even among Republicans who weren’t convinced Donald Trump was going to win in November.

Earlier this year, Trump released a list of potential nominees under consideration. The list garnered a lot of positive attention from conservatives, and hopes were high that the Supreme Court could remain in conservative hands. With Trump’s victory in November, the gamble by Senate Republicans paid off.

Today, the issue of the Supreme Court was thrust back into the spotlight, when President Trump revealed to the press that he planned on announcing his nominee next week.

From Breitbart:

President Donald Trump revealed to reporters that he is close to announcing his choice to fill the Supreme Court justice seat that has been vacant since the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.

“I’ll be making my decision this week. We’ll be announcing next week,” Trump told reporters after signing five executive orders Tuesday morning. “We have outstanding candidates, and we will pick a truly great Supreme Court justice.”

As for who the nominee might be, there have been reports that a potential candidate is leading the pack.

From the Daily Caller:

Judge Neil Gorsuch of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals may be the leading candidate for President Donald Trump’s first appointment to the Supreme Court.

Jan Crawford of CBS News, a veteran court-watcher, reports Trump may be close to settling on Gorsuch. At 49, he could conceivably serve on the Court for over 30 years if he is confirmed by the Senate.

Gorsuch has been praised by many as a great fit to replace the late Justice Scalia. In one study of Trump’s list, Gorsuch was ranked 2nd place in “Scalianess“, proving he has the right credentials to replace the conservative icon.

No word yet on if Gorosuch is indeed the front-runner, or when Trump will make his announcement next week.
