Since Donald Trump was elected, Democrats have marched lockstep in opposition to him. From blocking his policies, to trying to prove Russian collusion, the Democratic Party has been in constant attack mode. If Trump wants to do it, you can bet every Democrat is opposed to the idea.
You might think that with Trump pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord, more of the same is in order. However, at least one Democrat is straying from the party line and supporting Trump’s position.
From The Hill:
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) voiced support Thursday for President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accord, arguing that the agreement did not ensure “a balance between our environment and the economy.”
“While I believe that the United States and the world should continue to pursue a cleaner energy future, I do not believe that the Paris Agreement ensures a balance between our environment and the economy,” Manchin said in a statement. The support for Trump is sure to be unpopular with Democrats, most of whom have painted the withdrawal from the agreement as danger to the planet. According to them, not being part of the Paris Accord is sure to result in the Apocalypse.
Of course, much of the hysteria is hyperbole. Even if all of the extremely ambitious plan is implemented (an unlikely scenario), global temperatures will only be reduced by .17 of a degree Celsius by 2100. In other words, the agreement does virtually nothing to save the planet. What the Paris Climate Agreement does do is harm hard working Americans. Not only will the agreement result in higher energy prices, but resulting US policies would also do great damage to the economy. Clearly, the reward isn’t worth the price paid.
Sadly, most Democrats are using politically charged rhetoric to defend the deal. Not once have we heard a Democrat actually provide evidence for how this is going to save the earth. Then again, providing evidence to back up claims isn’t something the party has concerned itself with lately.
Instead, Democrats have blasted Trump for jeopardizing the future of our planet. Thankfully, at least one Democrat has now had the honesty to admit pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord was the right move.
