President Obama is, rightfully, taking a lot of flak for not attending the funeral of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. While thousands of Americans are lining up in the freezing cold to await their chance to pay his respects, the president apparently can’t be bothered to attend tomorrow’s funeral.
We’ve asked, how could the president possibly not be able to set aside an hour or so to honor one of nine sitting SCOTUS justices — a man who served this nation well for many years and arguably one of the most important men in the free world? Couldn’t he move back the 18 holes he’d planned? Maybe he has tix to a Broadway show? Only time he could squeeze in a game of pick-up basketball?
Well, we just found out what President Obama will be up to this weekend instead of attending Justice Scalia’s funeral.
President Barack Obama will start reading through extensive packets of information about potential Supreme Court nominees this weekend, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Friday.
The information includes details of their professional careers, records and experience. Obama will spend a “significant” portion of his weekend doing this, Earnest added.
He said the packets were prepared by White House lawyers.
Earnest said Obama does not yet have a shortlist of candidates. He would not specify how many nominees were being reviewed, but he did say it was more than two and that the list is not complete.
OK, so maybe we would’ve preferred golf after all. Though I’m sure he’ll still find a way to work that in, if he so desires…
Anyone else think it might’ve been kinda nice to at least wait until after the funeral?
