Score a victory for voter integrity in the important swing state of Virginia! Today, a federal judge ruled in favor of the state’s voter ID law.

A U.S. federal judge on Thursday upheld a 2013 Virginia law requiring prospective voters to show an approved photo identification before they cast their ballots.

The state’s Democratic Party had challenged the law, signed by former Republican Governor Robert McDonnell, saying it was politically motivated and intended to deter young and minority voters from turning out on Election Day.

“The court’s mission is to judge not the wisdom of the Virginia voter ID law, but rather its constitutionality,” wrote U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson in his decision.

While he noted that the measure created an “inconvenience” for potential voters who did not have drivers’ licenses or other government-issued ID, he said that was not enough to strike it down.

“While the merits of this voter identification law, and indeed all aspects of Virginia’s voting regime, can be reasonably debated, it remains true that Virginia has created a scheme of laws to accommodate all people in their right to vote,” Hudson wrote.

Lawyers representing the state Democratic Party said in a filing that the Republican-dominated state legislature passed the photo ID law “to stall, if not reverse, the growing success of the Democratic Party in Virginia.”

Interesting, isn’t it, that the Democrats’ argument reveals so transparently, wittingly or not, its reasons for arguing against the ID requirement. They’re practically admitting their “growth” depends on people who are unable to show ID. Apparently, the Dems have no shame in using every tactic possible to expand their voter rolls; U.S. citizenship — or, heck, even being alive — are optional.

The state argued that ID was necessary to ensure that only registered voters cast ballots and to prevent voter fraud.

In 2008, President Barack Obama became the first Democrat to carry Virginia in more than 40 years, in part because of turnout among black, Latino and young voters. Obama carried the state again in 2012.

In the most recent statewide elections, Democrats also swept all top offices: governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. Moreover, the state’s two U.S. senators are both Democrats.

Virginia is expected to play an important role in the 2016 presidential election, and we’ve already seen Democrat Gov. Terry McAuliffe start trotting out his tricks to try to swing the election for his good pal Hillary Clinton — recently signing an executive order  circumventing his Republican-run legislature extend voting rights to more than 200,000 convicted felons.

You may recall Gov. McAuliffe was not just formerly chairman of the Democrat National Committee (one of Little Debbie’s predecessors), he was also co-chairman of President Bill Clinton‘s 1996 re-election campaign. Oh yeah — and he was also chairman of Hillary Clinton‘s 2008 presidential campaign. And there are some who suggest McAuliffe’s role as governor of Virginia is purely a post to help set up the important swing state in favor of Dems.

Today’s ruling upholding voter ID — voter integrity — surely comes as a blow to the Clinton crony governor.

Virginia’s ruling comes one month after another federal judge upheld a similar requirement in North Carolina.

On the other hand, just this week, a federal judge in Kansas ruled the state cannot require voters to prove their citizenship when registering to vote. Still having a hard time understanding how that’s a problem…
