We’ve now learned WHY Hillary didn’t speak last night…

Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton surprised everyone by not addressing supporters at the end of a long night. When GOP nominee Donald Trump neared the magic number of 270 electoral votes, she instead sent surrogate campaign manager John Podesta out to address the long-waiting crowd. Podesta left us with words we struggled to parse:

“I know you’ve been here a long time and it’s been a long night and it’s been a long campaign, but I can say, we can wait a little longer, can’t we?” Podesta said to cheers. “We’re still counting votes and every vote should count. Several states are too close to call, so we’re not going to have anything more to say tonight.”

“She is not done yet. … Let’s get the votes counted and bring this home,” he added.

Those three words, “not done yet,” sparked questions about just what exactly her intentions were. Just not giving up hope until all votes were counted — even if her win had become improbably, if not impossible, by then?

Or could this mean the Clinton campaign is gearing up to challenge the election results — the very thing they were horrified that Trump suggested he might do if he felt there was reason?

Or — most troubling thought thought of all — are the Democrats going to somehow “find” votes that turn this race around, as has happened in previous races, such as the one that had Minnesota sending Al Franken to the Senate.

Actually, the Democrat nominee and longtime presidential hopeful may have just been too upset to speak.

As the Evening Standard reports:

Hillary Clinton had her concession speech prepared – she just never thought she’d need to read it out loud.

And when the moment came early today to admit that her lifelong dream of becoming America’s first woman president had been dashed, she simply couldn’t face the world.

The devastated Democratic candidate remained locked in her New York hotel room as it became clear that her glass ceiling had come crashing down around her.

And she was left ruing what could have been while Donald Trump was celebrating his unlikely election day triumph on stage at another hotel just two miles across Manhattan.

But if the former First Lady did hold out any hope of coming back from the dead, it didn’t last for long.

Perhaps stung by criticism that she was being ‘ungracious’ by refusing to publicly concede defeat, she called Mr Trump at 2.30am to accept the inevitable.

And, as we know, Clinton’s call to Trump opened the door for what everyone (other than liberals in the fetal position) was waiting for by that time: the victory speech from President-Elect Trump.

Now, apparently, Hillary is set to address the nation this morning. Let’s hope she is indeed ready to concede so that we can begin healing this fractured nation, as our new President-Elect Trump (!) is modeling for the nation now.
