He continues to lag behind in the polls, ranking 4th behind leaders Trump, Carson — and now Cruz — in the latest Fox News poll. Nonetheless, GOP presidential contender Marco Rubio may have a target on his back already. According to New York Times bestselling political author Ed Klein — author of Unlikeable: The Problem With Hillary — sources say former president Bill Clinton believes his wife’s campaign must “destroy [Rubio] before he gets off the ground.”

As The Blaze reports:

Citing “sources” who recently attended a dinner with Bill Clinton, author Ed Klein said the former president thinks Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) poses the biggest 2016 threat to Hillary.

He went down the entire list of the Republican candidates and he came to the conclusion that Marco Rubio would present Hillary with the greatest challenge because of his age,” Klein told “Fox and Friends” on Wednesday.

“He represents generational change. He also has a real appeal to the Latino vote. If he can siphon off that vote from Hillary, he could be a real formidable challenger.” Because of that, Klein said, Clinton reportedly told a group of friends the campaign needs to “destroy” Rubio “before his candidacy gets off the ground.”

While Rubio’s assets against Hillary are certainly credible, one has to wonder what else might be behind Bill’s purported comments. The Clintons are nothing if not calculated. And transparent, straight shooters they’re not. Does Bill indeed see Rubio as the biggest threat to his wife’s presidency — or is this just classic Clinton subterfuge? Does Bill want to influence GOP primary voters to get behind Rubio because he believes just the opposite — that his wife can handily beat him? Is there someone else the former president fears more?

Meanwhile, Politico reports that Sheldon Adelson, one of the Republican Party’s most sought-after contributors, is leaning increasingly toward supporting Marco Rubio — and the Florida senator is racing to win the backing of other uncommitted megadonors who have the potential to direct tens of millions of dollars his way and alter the contours of the Republican primary fight.

Which could mean Marco Rubio’s campaign is about to “get off the ground.” Or at least the liberal media wants us to think so.

But GOP primary voters clearly are in no mood to be told who to like and what to do. Bill Clinton and the liberal media can say what they want. GOP voters will decide.
