We’ve watched with jaws dropped as Golfer and Partier in Chief Obama continues on his merry way this week in Martha’s Vineyard, while citizens of Milwaukee endured unrest and the people of Louisiana face disaster. As we shared yesterday, a major Louisiana paper went so far as to call on President Obama to cut his vacation short, saying:

Now that the flood waters ravaging Louisiana are receding, it’s time for President Barack Obama to visit the most anguished state in the union.

Last week, as torrential rains brought death, destruction and misery to Louisiana, the president continued his vacation at Martha’s Vineyard, a playground for the posh and well-connected.

Like his predecessors, Obama has no doubt discovered that crises keep their own calendar, even when commanders-in-chief are trying to take some time off the clock. It’s an inconvenience of the presidency, but it’s what chief executives sign up for when they take the oath of office.

And if the president can interrupt his vacation for a swanky fundraiser for fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton, as he did on Monday, then surely he can make time to show up for a catastrophe that’s displaced thousands.

The president’s response? Playing another round of golf, of course; he reportedly hit the links Thursday with television star Larry David and Bain Capital co-managing partner Jonathan Lavine (yeah, Bain Capital, you know the company the left seized upon to crucify former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney for his role in founding. Yeah, that one.)

Well, look who IS going to Baton Rouge to show their support for the flood victims. [Update: He’s there.]

As Breitbart reports:

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate Mike Pence are going to Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Friday to meet victims of the flooding that has killed 13 and forced 30,000 Louisianans to leave their homes.

“I hope everyone in Louisiana knows that our country is praying for them, and standing with them to help them in these difficult hours,” Trump said at a rally in Charlotte, North Carolina on Thursday.

President Obama has given no indication he will interrupt his two week vacation in exclusive Martha’s Vineyard to visit the flood victims.

The Obama family’s vacation is scheduled to continue until Sunday.

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton will be resting from the campaign trail on Friday, and will also not be visiting Louisiana over the weekend. She currently has no campaign events scheduled until Sunday, when she will be holding a fundraiser in Provincetown, Massachusetts featuring the entertainer Cher.

A number of recent stories have focused on questions about Clinton’s health and her need for extensive rest over the weekends.

On Thursday, Clinton addressed the Louisiana flooding in a two sentence tweet:

The mainstream media, which was so critical of President George W. Bush’s handling of the Katrina flooding of New Orleans in 2005, has no such criticism of President Obama’s hands off approach to this year’s Louisiana flooding.

Yeah, remember how Kanye West, speaking about Hurricane Katrina, declared that Bush “doesn’t care about black people”?

Could it be that President Obama doesn’t care about black people either? Judging by how much little he’s done to improve the issues within the black community, as the first black president, could be some merit. Could it be that Donald Trump cares more about black people — and the American people in general — than Obama? GASP.

Now, watch, I (Michelle Jesse) am gonna go out on a limb here and predict that the media — the same media who bashed President Bush for not showing enough support for Hurricane Katrina, but are giving President Obama a pass to continue golfing and partying — will accuse GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump of using the situation for political gain.

But I’m gonna go out on a limb and say, what Donald Trump is not politicizing. This is what leadership looks like. One of the roles of a leader is letting people know he is with them, he gets what they are going through and will lead them through the good and the bad. It might seem a bit strange as we haven’t seen it for many years in this country. Won’t it be refreshing to have it back?
