Police said three people have been shot at Westfield Montgomery Mall at 7101 Democracy Blvd. in Bethesda on Friday morning and that a suspect is at large.

Soon after, a woman was fatally shot at a grocery store several miles away, and authorities are investigating whether the incidents are linked.

Montgomery County Assistant Police Chief Darryl McSwain said they responded to a call at 11 a.m. for a report of a person shot at the mall in Bethesda. He said an initial investigation found that it appeared that one person was shot in a parking lot, and then two others who came to help also were shot. Two of the victims are men and one is a woman. He did not say what their conditions were.

McSwain said there is no suspect in custody but there is a “person of interest and hopefully we can capture him in the near future.” He said they had “no reason to believe the victims knew the suspect” in the mall shooting.

Police also said that shortly after the mall shooting a woman was fatally shot at a Giant grocery store in the Aspen Hill area, about eight miles from the mall. Initial details were sparse.

Out of caution, Montgomery school officials placed a total of 13 schools on shelter in place protocols related to the two shooting incidents.

Today’s shootings come just the day after one person was killed on the grounds of a Maryland high school, in what police believe was a “domestic-related homicide.”

Interestingly, police have not provided a description of the suspect(s) they seek. Draw your own conclusions from that.

However, WJLA in Washington, D.C. reports there was speculation that the suspect in both of the shootings was 62-year-old Eulalio Tordil, who was already wanted in connection with the shooting death of his estranged wife Gladys Tordil Thursday, sources told ABC7.
