Our nation tonight has suddenly become a tinder box, following two high-profile officer-involved shootings that left black men dead — the first, in Louisiana and another last night in Minnesota.

Protests have sprung up across the nation and police are gearing up for riots.

And tonight, tragedy is begetting more tragedy as we are getting reports of as many as six officers being shot during one of the local protests in Dallas, Texas.

UPDATE:

ORIGINAL STORY:

As Fox 4 reports from Dallas:

Police are responding to an active shooter after two officers were shot during protest in downtown Dallas Thursday afternoon.

An officer on the scene confirmed that at least two officers were shot but their conditions are unknown. At least one officer has been rushed to the hospital.

Police sources tell FOX 4 one suspect is down while a second possible suspect is in a downtown Dallas garage and wearing a bulletproof vest and tactical gear.

A police source says at least 3 – 6 officers have been shot. Their conditions are not known.

The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. as the protestors were marching near Lamar and Main St.

SWAT officers are on scene and guns have been drawn near the building.

Police are urging citizens to avoid downtown Dallas.

This incident is unfolding just hours after President Obama took to the podium to address the two officer-involved shootings of black men during the past few days. However, rather than calling for calm and for citizens to wait for facts before jumping to conclusions, the president seems to have only stoked the fire:

Recent police-involved shooting incidents in the U.S. are “symptomatic of a broader set of racial disparities that exist in our criminal justice system,” President Barack Obama said.

“When incidents like this occur, there is a big chunk of our fellow citizenry that feels as if because of the color of their skin they are not being treated the same. And that hurts. And that should trouble all of us,” Obama said after a transatlantic flight to Warsaw.

Yes, instead of using his bully pulpit to call for Americans to remain calm, and come together while we await the facts and an understanding of what transpired in both tragic events of the past few days, our Divider in Chief stoked the divide between races and the divide between police officers and those they bravely serve.

So anyone want to take a guess as to how soon the president will take to the podium again to express his concern over the shootings of these police officers tonight?

We pray for all involved — and for our nation.
