BREAKING: Deadly shooting outside NYC mosque…

We are getting initial details about a tragedy in New York City, where two men were reportedly shot outside a mosque. One, an imam, is apparently dead, while another man is injured.

Some witnesses are calling this a “targeted attack,” while some reports are suggesting authorities say it’s a robbery gone bad.

New York Daily News reports:

A lone gunman opened fire on a Queens imam and his assistant as the two walked after Saturday afternoon prayers, leaving one dead and the other critically wounded.

The gunshots rang out near the Al-Furqan Jame Masjid Mosque in Ozone Park, leaving both men lying on the ground in their own blood just a block from the house of worship, according to witnesses.

The two were wearing Muslim garb when each was shot in the head around 1:50 p.m. on 79th St., said police sources. It was unclear if the killer said anything before he started shooting, and police did not identify which of the two men was killed.

However, The New York Times noted that a man who has attended the mosque, the Al-Furqan Jame Masjid, said it was the imam who was killed.

Dozens of angry Muslim men gathered at the murder scene, making it clear they believed the shooting was a hate crime — with the two religious leaders specifically targeted.

“That’s not what America is about,” said local resident Khairul Islam, 33. “We blame Donald Trump for this … Trump and his drama has created Islamophobia.”

Others were more measured in their response:

“We are devastated,” said Kobir Chowdhury, president of a second neighborhood mosque. “We need to get to the bottom of this. We need to know if they did this just because of our religion.”

Cops and witnesses described the shooter as tall and Hispanic, carrying a large handgun, and wearing a dark blue shirt and short pants. Police received a 911 call with a report of shots fired.

Police, without providing a motive, initially said the shooting was not a hate crime. The gunfire erupted near a storage facility and a block away from the elevated A train station, officials said.

The willful taking of human life is a tragedy, regardless of target or motive.

It is curious to note, however, how quickly some are jumping to the conclusion that this is a hate crime — even going so far as to blame a particular man, Donald Trump. (Incidentally, might be hard to accuse the shooter of “white supremacy,” since according to police, he is Hispanic. Come to think of it, not the most likely follower of Donald Trump, if you believe the mainstream narrative… Though perhaps the left-wing media will dub him a “White Hispanic,” as they did George Zimmerman, to better suit their narrative.)

Where is the call to wait to know more before we jump to conclusions, as is the case when an Islamic or Islamic-inspired attacker strikes — for example, in the Orlando and San Bernardino terror attacks? Or how about the Fort Hood and Chattanooga attacks? In some of those cases, we waited months to hear the real motive — radical Islamic terror — declared (and in at least one of those cases, we are still waiting for officials to acknowledge it).

It will be telling to see how quickly the Obama administration steps out to comment on this particular tragedy and the words they choose in doing so.
