A 46-year-old Parisian nurse named David was one of the first people to rush into the Comptoir Voltaire café immediately after he heard the explosion on Friday the 13th. David works at a nearby hospital and instinctively wanted to help.

He said at first he thought gas had caused the explosion, but in any event, he wanted to assist the victims.

He found a man lying on the floor amid the tangle of chairs. The man had a large wound in his side, and was unconscious. David and another person began administering CPR, as you can see in this video.

As the Daily Mail reports, “It was only when he tore open the man’s t-shirt did David realize that what he initially thought was a gas explosion at the cafe close to the Bataclan music hall, was actually something far worse.

‘There were wires; one white, one black, one red and one orange. Four different colours. I knew then he was a suicide bomber,’ he told Reuters.

The man David was trying to resuscitate was Brahim Abdeslam, one of the eight terrorists involved in the series of deadly attacks that killed 130 people at the Stade de France, cafes, restaurants and a music hall.

Security officers continue to hunt for the suspected eight gunman, Saleh Abdeslam, 26 – it was his brother Brahim, that nurse David was trying to save.

‘(Later), I was thinking about how I lay him on the floor, with me doing CPR. It’s a pretty vigorous process. By just doing that, I also could have been gone,’ David said.”

Amid threats of another Paris-style attack, Brussels is currently in “lockdown” — including a complete shutdown of the subway system. And as we reported here yesterday, the hacker group Anonymous claims it uncovered plans for a series of attacks planned for today in a number of cities around the globe, including Atlanta, Georgia.

These are very scary times indeed — when even helping a stranger could endanger your own life.
