After some of Ted Cruz’s campaign staffers apparently spread the rumor that Ben Carson was pulling out of the race because he was leaving Iowa to go home to Florida briefly before heading to New Hampshire – and Ted Cruz apologized – Donald Trump has now unleashed some hellfire missiles against Cruz.
First there was this:
Ted Cruz didn't win Iowa, he stole it. That is why all of the polls were so wrong and why he got far more votes than anticipated. Bad!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 3, 2016
And then this:
Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 3, 2016
Now this is purely my (Michele Hickford’s) opinion, but I’m not sure this is a great strategic move. On the plus side, it’s definitely going to impact the dialogue. And as Col. West said on Brian Kilmeade’s radio show this morning, it’s a bad optic for Cruz and perceptions can lend themselves to realty.
But on the negative side, sheesh! Get over it Donald. Cruz apologized. There were probably some over-zealous campaign folks who naively thought it was a good idea.
Get back to the real issues. And stop trash talking.
