Sheriff Clarke has a new book…and MIGHT have a new job

We here at allenbwest.com have long been fans of Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke’s outspoken brand of commentary. After all, in that, he bears some resemblance to our own Allen B. West.

Although he’s a registered Democrat, Clarke is a popular speaker on the conservative circuit, speaking at this year’s CPAC, at the Republican National Convention in support of Donald Trump, and most recently last week at the NRA convention.

Clarke is up for re-election as Sheriff in 2018, but he might have a new job before then. While supporters have encouraged him to run for the U.S. Senate, challenging Tammy Baldwin, Clarke said in his new book “Cop Under Fire,” “I have no interest in running for elected office other than being sheriff.”

However he might find himself in Washington D.C.

Politico reports, The White House is considering David Clarke, the sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, for a position at the Department of Homeland Security, three people familiar with the administration’s planning told POLITICO.

Clarke is in line to be appointed as assistant secretary at DHS’ Office of Partnership and Engagement, which coordinates outreach to state, local and tribal officials and law enforcement. The position does not require Senate confirmation.

A senior administration official cautioned it’s “not a done deal yet.”

Nonetheless, we wish him the best. Fingers crossed. We need more strong voices like Sheriff Clarke’s in D.C.
