I had my share of political campaigning, and I can tell you, it is NOT for the faint of heart. But the mudslinging isn’t just mud anymore. It’s a lot more…pungent.
We’re not here to comment on or defend Donald Trump’s comments about Mexican illegal immigrants, which lead Univision to sever all ties with the Miss Universe pageant because it is partially owned by Trump.
Fair enough. That is their choice. But this latest action is really over the line.
As the Free Beacon reports, Alberto Ciurana, Univision’s president of programming and content, made a post on his official Instagram account last week that appeared to indicate that there were similarities between Trump and Roof, who last week killed nine people in a shooting at a church in Charleston, S.C.
The since-deleted Instagram post received hundreds of likes from Ciurana’s 116,000 followers on the site. It also received backlash.
“With all due respect, what happened last night is not a joke,” commented Patty Rodriguez, senior producer of radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest. “This is very irresponsible of you.”
Michael Cohen, special counsel to Trump, called Ciurana’s post “totally insensitive” and said that Ciurana should resign.
Whatever anyone wants to say about Mr. Trump, this should not have been one of them. My friends, we are in for a very long 16 months until Election Day, and if this is a sign of what’s to come, it’s going to get very, very ugly.
Am I the only one who really doesn’t like the direction we’re headed?
