It’s no secret that George P. Bush’s father Jeb is part of the #NeverTrump crowd. Donald Trump regularly mocked Jeb Bush during the rancorous Republican primary and Jeb was never able to shake his “low energy” label.
Well, cracks in “Team Bush” seem to be appearing as George P. this weekend broke ranks with his father to suggest Texas voters back Trump.
The Hill reports, Bush said it’s time to put aside lingering tensions from the primary — in which Trump defeated his father, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush — to back the nominee.
“From Team Bush, it’s a bitter pill to swallow, but you know what? You get back up and you help the man that won, and you make sure that we stop Hillary Clinton,” Bush said, according to video provided by someone in the audience.
Bush was Saturday speaking as the Texas GOP’s victory chairman, responsible for overseeing the party’s statewide campaign in November, the Texas Tribune reports. He had previously been criticized for taking the role without endorsing Trump. Frankly, it boggles the mind that ANY Republican could see Hillary Clinton as preferable to Donald Trump in the White House. Hopefully, as we get closer to Election Day, more establishment types will get in the boat and start rowing.
Although in the case of folks like Lindsey Graham, it wouldn’t be a shame if they got in their own boat and rowed into the sunset.
