Never mind Obamacare: GOP now backpedaling on THIS promise…

UGH! Groundhog Day was last month, but does anyone else feel like they’re stuck in that Bill Murray movie of the same name?

In the House, we have Speaker Paul Ryan trying to convince us the only possible way to get to a full repeal of Obamacare is to pass a slightly amended version of it wrapped up in bow called “American” Health Care — well, at least they took “affordable” out of the title. ‘Bout time everyone fesses up to the truth that it ain’t. We’re expected to take his word for it that the second and third phases they pass…some day…will get us the necessary reforms.

But —whine, whine whine — we HAVE to do it this way because otherwise, the Democrats will filibuster and NOTHING will get passed.

So even though Republicans “control” the House and Senate, it’s those mean ol’ Democrats who STILL prevent the GOP from passing any meaningful legislation to dismantle the Obama/liberal progressive agenda.

And it gets worse. As Col. West wrote here today, Republicans are going after other Republicans who won’t swallow this health care bill hook, line and sinker by running TV ads against them.

Ok, so that’s health care, and we know it’s become another “entitlement” we’ll never be able to cut back — even though people weren’t always entitled to having the government pay for it.

So how about tax reform? That was another big promise too. Well, you hear that sound? It’s backpedaling.

From The Hill: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Thursday poured cold water on the Trump administration’s goal of completing tax reform by the August recess.

“I think finishing on tax reform will take longer,” McConnell said during a Playbook Live interview.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said late last month that the administration wants to wrap up a long-held GOP goal of overhauling the tax code before lawmakers leave for a monthlong break.

“So we are committed to pass tax reform,” he told CNBC. “We want to get this done by the August recess.”

Pressed about when he thought lawmakers would be able to complete tax reform, the Senate’s top Republican demurred.

“It is complicated. All of those discussions are already under way,” McConnell said. “How do you craft it?”

Gaaaaah! Why the heck did we elect you guys if you can’t even figure that out?

Republicans are expected to use reconciliation to approve tax reform, meaning they would be able to clear the bill through the upper chamber with only GOP support.

That’s what they’re trying to do with the Obamacare repeal, and we see how well THAT’S working out.

When Obama was in office, and the GOP was in the minority in the Senate, we could blame Harry Reid for ensuring nothing got done. We had a decent excuse.

Sorry, Mitch. But there’s no decent excuse now.
