Does anyone even watch pageants, these now quaint celebrations of beauty anymore? I don’t know. But I do think these sorts of cultural parades provide a barometer of why we as a nation are in trouble (just wait for the Grammy awards).
Sadly, Miss USA only came second in Sunday’s Miss Universe pageant in Miami, Florida. She lost out to Miss Colombia for the tiara.
But she had a superbly Josh Earnest-like response to a question from boxer (and contestant judge) Manny Pacquiao.
Pacquiao, also serves in the Philippine House of Representatives, and as we reported earlier today, has a problem with Islamic terror in his nation as well. He asked 24-year-old Nia Sanchez, “If you were given 30 seconds to deliver a message to global terrorists, what would you say?”Watch her answer here. Honestly, it’s really difficult to sound serious in those earrings anyway.
Just in case you’d like to examine the syntax more carefully, Sanchez said:
“I know as Miss USA I can always spread a message of hope and love and peace, and I would do my very best to spread that message to them and everyone else in the world.”
Yep, we’re doomed.
