What colleges are now REQUIRING in MEN’s bathrooms is blowing minds

Spoiler alert: If you’re a man reading this, it may make you squeamish. Please note: This article was written by a female.

Now that we have THAT out of the way, a short biology lesson. At some point in their lives, all women menstruate. That is, females who are born with functioning uteri et al, have a monthly cycle during which the reproductive organs produce an egg (ovulate), and the lining of the uterus thickens in preparation for perhaps the arrival of sperm and fertilization. When the party doesn’t happen, the uterus sheds the lining and menstruation occurs. Female humans deal with this for oh, forty years or so, and then it stops and we all get hot flashes instead (but that’s another story).

So, in the interest of “menstrual equality” some colleges are now providing free tampons in restrooms with the thought being, you don’t have to bring your own toilet paper, so why should you have to BYO tampons? Okay, we can argue the rationale of that one, but here’s where it gets really kooky.

Colleges are now putting tampons in the MEN’S bathrooms as well because in this day and age, we must cater to the infinitesimal percentage of the population who identifies as male but unfortunately has the wrong plumbing to prove it.

Per the Daily Caller, The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Brown University and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities are just a few colleges who placed menstruation products in their male and gender neutral bathrooms, reports the Chronicle of Higher Education.

The idea is that transgender men, women who transitioned to men, might need tampons because they still have periods.

“That’s become a really popular rallying cry and source of activism on college campuses — the idea that these products should be freely available by the schools that these students attend,” Jennifer Weiss-Wolf, who came up with “menstrual equity” explained. “This problem is eminently solvable, through a lot of avenues, and college-campus organizing is one of them.”

A student proposal for free tampons at University of Rochester won a $5,000 award from the school’s student government. The proposal suggested placing baskets with tampons and pads in some bathrooms, including a men’s room.

“We have smaller baskets in men’s restrooms, but the reason we do that is because there are some men on the campus who menstruate and so it’s just the whole idea of inclusion and making sure that nobody’s left out — it’s a very easy thing,” Lance Floto, a vice president with the student government.

Bowdoin College also put free tampons in their men’s rooms, only to have someone defecate on them.

Well, apparently someone had very strong feelings about finding tampons in the men’s room. It’s a good bet many of you reading this also have strong feelings about the idea as well.

But here’s the way I (Michele Hickford) look at it. Transgender people have been among us for decades. Somehow, they’ve figured out a way to blend in and go about their business. They currently make up less than half a percent of our population – and maybe that number is double what it used to be because now it’s so trendy to be “gender fluid” but STILL. It’s a tiny percentage. On a campus of 10,000 students, you’re maybe talking 30 people – and of those, maybe half are biologically female who “identify” as male.

And yet for those 15 tortured souls, we must now make sure all of our men’s room have tampons at the ready just in case they have an emergency during “that time of the month.”

This is absolutely nuts. The world is going absolutely insane. But you knew that already, I reckon.
