Remember last year when news of the Veterans Administration scandal broke? Appointments records across the board were systematically manipulated to show veterans were getting timely treatment when in fact they weren’t. Veterans died as a result of not getting treatment. And as a result, then-secretary Eric Shinseki was forced to resign, as President Obama vowed he would get to the bottom of the issue.
But….according to Hillary Clinton, it wasn’t really such a big deal after all. In fact, it was all kind of exaggerated by those rascally Republicans.
As The Hill reports, “Democratic primary front-runner Hillary Clinton says the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) scandal is not as “widespread” of a problem as coverage would indicate.
She said the problem is real, but cautioned that “it’s not been as widespread as it has been made out to be” on MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show” on Friday.
The former first lady blamed Republicans for using the issue as part of an “ideological agenda” and said they want the VA to “fail.”
“Now nobody would believe that from the coverage you see, and the constant berating of the VA that comes from the Republicans, in – in part in pursuit of this ideological agenda that they have,” Clinton said.
An “ideological agenda” Mrs. Clinton? You mean that agenda to give our veterans timely, thorough treatment? To make sure those who have sacrificed for our nation and cheated death on the battlefield don’t DIE waiting to see a doctor? THAT ideological agenda?Oh and by the way Mrs. Clinton, it was your Senate Democrats who blocked a bill to fund the VA earlier this month.
“I don’t understand why we have such a problem, because there have been a number of surveys of veterans, and, overall, veterans who do get treated are satisfied with their treatment,” she said.”Oh really? Does that include the 100,000-odd veterans across the country who were waiting long periods to see doctors, according to the internal Department of Veterans Affairs audit released last year? As USA Today reported at the time, “The agency also found evidence that in the past 10 years, nearly 64,000 veterans who sought VA care were simply never seen by a doctor.”
The VA audit…revealed that there was at least some level of manipulated scheduling at three of every four agency medical facilities — whether a hospital or a clinic. Unofficial lists of veterans whose care was delayed were kept at 70 percent of medical facilities, the audit found.
Now, I didn’t have to go through Common Core math, but I’m pretty sure 70 percent equals a widespread problem.
Does Mrs. Clinton think we’re THAT stupid? Oh…yes I guess so. After all, she still leads the polls for her party and the nation elected Mr. B. Hussein Obama not once, but twice.
