At a time when our nation is heavily divided by political affiliations, and racial tensions are at the highest they’ve been in decades, it’s important to remember that true cases of racism still exist.
Granted, the media enjoys blowing things out of proportion and turning everything into a racially motivated hoopla, even when it’s nothing of the sort, but still, there are times when hatred legitimately knocks at the door.
One such instance recently unfolded in New York, where a white man travelled to the city with the sole intent of killing black men.
According to NBC:
The suspect in a fatal Manhattan stabbing of a 66-year-old man told detectives he specifically traveled to New York City to attack black men, police said.James Harris Jackson, a 28-year-old white Maryland man, told police officers that he traveled to New York City to commit the crime because of its reputation as “the media capital of the world,” NYPD’s Chief of Detectives for Manhattan William Aubrey said at a press conference Wednesday.
“He knew what he was doing when he was coming up here,” Aubrey said. “We’re very fortunate it started at one and wasn’t more. His intention was to come here and harm male blacks.”Aubrey said Jackson’s recent actions and information from interviews led police to believe the crime was “clearly racially motivated.” NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill called the killing “extremely distressing.”
Jackson was arrested on a second-degree murder charge, but officials want to upgrade the charge levied against him to hate crime and first-degree murder, authorities said.
Police said Timothy Caughman was going through garbage near 36th Street and Ninth Avenue when Jackson allegedly stabbed him in the back several times around 11:15 p.m. Monday. The New Yorker walked into the nearby Midtown South police station on West 35th Street for help.
He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he later died, authorities said. No one else was attacked.
A man like Jackson, with so much hate in his heart, who’s wrongfully taken the life of another human being deserves to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, as murder is truly a crime against all of us, not just the individual who lost their life.
There’s absolutely no room for hatred in our hearts and culture, because if we want to truly restore America to greatness, it’s going to take all kinds of people from every walk of life you can think of, working together.
Without that, we don’t have much of a country left.
