We live in a very strange day and age. A time when folks can go against the DNA they were born with, and claim to be something that, scientifically, they are not. Instead of being labeled in need of psychiatric help, they’re celebrated as heroes.
That bit about psychiatric help wasn’t meant as a dig either, as transgenderism used to be — and many believe should still be — considered a mental illness.
While much of the controversy on this subject has been centered around whether or not transgendered individuals should be allowed to use the bathroom of the sex they identify as, it seems that’s only the tip of the iceberg for the lunacy now unfolding in our culture.Yes, the slippery slope leads to a rather dark place.
The New York Post is reporting:
A transgender dad and daughter from Detroit are revealing their incredible journeys as they transition from mom and son.Corey Maison, 15, first told her parents she identified as a girl four years ago, but it was not until last year she learned that her mother also struggled with her gender identity. The pair are now leaning on each other as they transition together.
The teen has chronicled their transitions on her Instagram account, and the two sat down for an interview with Australia’s “60 Minutes” to talk about the experience.
“I wanted to make my parents proud of who I am, but I thought that they would not like me,” Corey said about coming out as transgender.
Eric Maison, who used to go by Erica, said that he was emboldened by his daughter’s decision. He wrestled with different emotions while deciding whether to transition.
Eric Maison has since undergone a double mastectomy. He said he plans to stay together with his husband, Les, who supports his transition.
“I fell in love with the person. She was beautiful as a woman, but equally beautiful on the inside,” Les Maison said. “As long as Eric is happy with the appearance, Eric will be happy with what’s in her brain – or his brain.”
Wow. Just wow.
We should truly feel for these two because our culture is celebrating their illness as if it should be worn as a badge of courage.
Indulging a mental illness should never be something encouraged by others. It’s destructive, and can lead to serious psychological damage.
The transgender community has an alarmingly high suicide rate, another fact that makes celebrating what this parent and child are doing more egregious. Additionally, allowing a child to “transition” has been called “child abuse” by some in the medical community.
Would our culture tell someone with anxiety or depression to go ahead and just indulge all of their negative thought patterns? We can see the answer to that so clearly…Why do we have such trouble with transgenderism? Because it’s politicized.
If you aren’t a person who prays for the world, now might be a good time to start.
