More and more it’s becoming less and less possible for the Democrats to hide their true nature. Heck, just look who’s running the Party now.
Last night at the president’s first joint address to Congress, Democrats proudly brought as their “guests” people who have broken federal laws (there’s that old adage about the company you keep).
Then there was a silent protest, with female Democrats wearing white (how long before a social justice warrior brands THAT racist?) as a nod to the women’s suffrage movement.
Just a fun fact: the 19th Amendment (granting women the right to vote) was first introduced in Congress in 1878 by Republican Senator Aaron A. Sargent and voted down by a Democrat-controlled congress, but let’s ignore that for now. It’s not like there’s never been a form of protest at a president’s speech to Congress before (who remembers Joe Wilson’s “you lie!” comment?), but there’s one group of attendees that’s always expected to remain neutral, sit still, and stay silent: the Supreme Court. Last night they made an exception in honor of the late Justice Antonin Scalia. Maureen Scalia, Antonin Scalia’s widow, was one of the guests Trump brought to his speech to the joint session of Congress. Trump made mention of it, stating that he was “honored” to have her in attendance, and that her husband was a “symbol of American justice.” In response, members of the Court broke tradition to stand and applaud. One of Scalia’s many children, Christopher, tweeted about the “beautiful” moment.
Watch the moment below:
But at a time where you’d think they might show a modicum of decorum, the overwhelming majority of Democrats remained seated. Classy.
But hey, they couldn’t even applaud when Trump talked about job creation, so expecting them to stand and honor a Supreme Court Justice is too much to ask.
