Economist John Lott penned the groundbreaking book “More Guns, Less Crime” in the late 90s – and the evidence continues to pour in favoring the book’s thesis (which should be more than evident from the title).
Lott now runs the “Crime Prevention Research Center,” an anti-gun control think tank. The CPRC provided the source study for this amazing fact from the NRA which notes while concealed carry permit holdings have soared 215 percent since 2007, the murder rate has dropped by 14 percent and overall violent crime dropped 21 percent.

Among the key findings of the report the NRA is referencing as stunning:> During President Obama’s administration, the number of concealed handgun permits has soared to over 14.5 million – a 215 percent increase since 2007.
> In another 11 states, a permit is no longer required to carry in all or virtually all of the state. Thus the growth in permits does not provide a full picture of the overall increase in concealed carry.> Between 2007 and 2015, murder rates fell from 5.6 to 4.7 (preliminary estimate) per 100,000. This represents a 16% drop. Overall violent crime fell by 18 percent. Meanwhile, the percentage of adults with permits has soared by 190 percent.
> There were 103 crimes per 100,000 police officers,” while the U.S. population’s crime rate is 37 times that number. Permit holders are convicted of felonies and misdemeanors at less than a sixth of the rate of police officers, according to the study. Officers also commit firearm violations, 16.5 per 100,000, seven times more frequently than permit holders, at only 2.4 per 100,000 in Texas and Florida.
Fears of incoming gun control are to thank for the spike in gun sales and demand for concealed carry permits, so Obama can be credited for unintentionally helping prove that more guns (in the right hands) really does mean less crime.
