Democrats can’t seem to get the memo about gun control.
After a fifteen hour filibuster which sparked voting on four gun control measures (none of which would’ve prevented a recent mass public shooting), the bill was shot down about as quickly as it started. Today, congressional Democrats staged a “sit in” for gun control, which apparently they think is going to be what tips the nation in favor of gun control.
The far-left US Uncut reports:
One of the leading figures of the Civil Rights Movement is now leading Democratic members of Congress in a sit-in on the floor of the House of Representatives.announced this morning along with a demand for a vote on legislation aimed at reducing the gun violence epidemic by expanding background checks for online and gun show purchases of firearms. They are also asking for provisions that would prevent those on the FBI’s terrorist watchlist from buying guns. “Over the last 12 years, gun-related crimes claimed more American lives than AIDS, war, and illegal drug overdoses combined. Since Newtown, tens of thousands of lives have been lost to this deadly crisis,” the members wrote in a letter addressed to House Speaker Paul Ryan. “The number of bills that have been debated and passed by this Congress to prevent such deaths is zero.”
The call for a vote came on the heels of House Republicans recessing from the chamber, with Rep. Lewis announcing the sit-in surrounded by his colleagues.
“How many more mothers, how many more fathers need to shed tears of grief before we do something? We were elected to lead. We must be headlights, and not taillights,” Lewis said. “We must not continue to stick our head in the sand and ignore the reality of mass gun violence in our nation.”
“We want to do our job. We came here to work,” he added.
Great. How kind of you all to show up to work, sit on the floor like children while the taxpayers pay your salary, to promote legislation nobody wants.
At least they can’t pass any other progressive nonsense while they behave like children upset over not getting what they want. Hopefully Congressional Republicans respond appropriately, and bring them all juice boxes, pillows and blankets.
