Given his publicly-known liberal views and his criticism of President Trump (such as referring to him as the “worst idea that’s ever happened to America” in September 2016), many were surprised to see U2 frontman Bono praise Mike Pence earlier today. The two met at the Munich Security Conference, and Bono told Pence that he appreciated the meeting, then thanked him for two bills he supported in Congress to provide AIDS medication to African nations.
In fact, he went so far as to say, “It was an extraordinary accomplishment. You played a leading role.”
So in other words, nothing politically-charged, just respect between two men who disagree with each other ideologically.
No problem, right?Apparently not. Bono’s few words of respect were enough to turn the Twitter outrage machine against him.

I didn't think I could hate Bono anymore than I already do. I was wrong. https://t.co/aVSBu96WPk

Look, Bono, I know you love helping Africa, but nothing is worth praising Mike Pence.

Yes – how dare he be polite!
Who knew that love trumping hate would be so nasty?
