Last week we reported some of the rumors that Hillary Clinton was considering a run for Mayor of New York City. Current Mayor Bill de Blasio’s approval ratings are in the toilet, while Hillary is extremely popular in the city. She did defeat Trump in NYC by a long-shot after winning 78.59% with 1,969,920 votes.
Rumors that she’d run for NYC mayor began just days after her loss to Trump, but they returned again recently when Newsmax claimed to have a source claiming she was talking about running for the position. Meanwhile, Adam Raymond at New York Magazine argues that such claims are nothing more than rumors:
“After decades of despising Hillary Clinton, a certain obsessive segment of Americans find themselves in an unfamiliar position in 2017 — the pantsuited boogeywoman who fed their fears for decades is nowhere to be found. (Unless you look in the woods). So how will they respond? By hoping Clinton runs for mayor of New York City.”
We’d hoped that he was right — and thank God, he was.
In a Newsmax update, regarding their prior speculation:Hillary Clinton, despite urging for her to run for New York Mayor to potentially stay in the mix for a 2020 presidential campaign, is done running for office and will focus on aiding children and families, a confidante said Sunday. “I don’t expect her to ever run for any elected office again,” Neera Tanden, President of the Center for American Progress, told CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Newsmax’s John Gizzi broke news earlier this week Clinton was being urged to run against NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio maintaining a political cachet to run for president again, challenging President-elect Donald Trump after his first term.
“For what it’s worth, Secretary Clinton, we’d love to see you run for mayor,” the New York Post wrote in an editorial Friday. “New York City needs you.”
Perhaps Hillary was worried that NYC’s mayoral election would be yet another race she was certain to win up until the votes were tallied.
