Obama’s Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland may have a reputation for being a moderate, but at least one of the presidential candidates isn’t going to like him.

Back in the Fall of 2012, Yale held its seasonal Morris Tyler Moot Court of Appeals competition. Law students were to present arguments related to the Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc case, which was about to come before the Supreme Court.

That case centered around Arizona’s voter registration requirements, which include documenting citizenship.

Garland appeared as one of the judges. When one student began to list all the various forms of documenting citizenship, Garland invoked Trump as a rebuttal.

Via The Weekly Standard

“Does your theory depend on the fact that this proposition you think is reasonable?” Garland asks a law student at the competition. “What if Donald Trump became the secretary of state of Arizona and insisted there’s only one way you can prove citizenship, and that’s with your long-form birth certificate?”

The crowd snickered.

Garland went on, “You would still say that that rules, right?”

In all fairness, it was clearly a joke about Trump’s (former?) birther-ism, and a relevant question to the debater and her arguments. To no surprise however, Garland is extremely unpopular among Trump supporters.
