If you’ve ever tuned into Sean Hannity’s television show, chances are you’ve encountered an Islamist preacher named Anjem Choudary. Hannity has Choudary on his show so we can hear what Islamists are really thinking straight from the horse’s mouth. He’s justified the Charlie Hebdo attacks, justified threats against Pamera Geller for holding a cartoon contest to draw the Prophet Mohammad, and promised us that Sharia law is coming to America.
Based in the United Kingdom, he founded a pro-Sharia extremist group called “Islam4UK,” which was shut down in 2010. While Choudary has been careful to dance around questions of whether or not he explicitly supports ISIS (for legal purposes), the company he keeps speaks for itself. One of those associated with Choudary is Abu Rumaysah, who fled the UK to join ISIS, and has been spotted as an executioner in one of their propaganda videos. The recent documentary “The Jihadist Next Door” profiled a number of members of Islam4UK – including Rumaysah, Choudary, and others, before Rumaysah fled for Syria.
So how the heck hasn’t he wound up in prison? That’s a great question – and it’s looking like that’s in his future. Breaking911 just reported: Anjem Choudary, aged 49, encouraged backing for ISIS in a series of YouTube videos, the Old Bailey court heard.
His group became a haven for terrorists, which accepted Michael Adebolago, the radical Islamist who killed British soldier Lee Rigby in 2013.Choudary was found guilty of inviting support for a proscribed organization under the terrorism act 2000. Choudary and co-defendant Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, 33, were found guilty of encouraging support for IS between June 29 2014 and March 6 2015.
Their trial heard Choudary swore an oath of allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
He now faces a maximum possible sentence of 10 years in prison.
Choudary said: ‘We initiate the jihad against the kuffar [disbelievers] to make the name of Allah in the highest. He never considered defending yourself part of jihad. He said you need to send in the army… It is about time we resumed conquering for the sake of Allah. ‘Next time when your child is at school and the teacher asks, “What is your ambition?” They should say, “to dominate the whole world by Islam, including Britain, that is my ambition”.’
Finally. Nearly 2,000 people from the UK have left to fight for ISIS, it’s about time they start clamping down on the extremists on their own soil.
