Socialist Venezuela is in total ruins. Their economy shrank 10 percent last year, unemployment approached 20 percent, inflation topped 700 percent, and mass shortages of basic goods broke out nationwide.
The liberals who initially praised Venezuela as a socialist success story, among them being Michael Moore, Salon’s David Sirota, and UK Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, have understandably gone silent.
There are currently thousands protesting across the country against the socialist government, and leave it to Rachel Maddow to somehow blame this on Donald Trump. As HeatStreet reported, the opposition coalition that is calling the protests, the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), repeatedly tweeted saying the protests are against the dictatorial socialist government, yet on Thursday, Maddow said on her show that the reason people are coming out to the streets was a new report showing that Venezuela’s government donated $500,000 to the Trump campaign.
The records show that Citgo Petroleum, a US-based subsidiary of a major state-owned Venezuelan oil company PVDSA, donated half a million dollars to Trump’s inauguration ceremony fund.
The footage from Venezuela was captioned as “Unrest in Venezuela Over Trump Donations” during the segment on MSNBC about the country and its donations to Trump’s campaign. Maddow, a Rhodes Scholar, said “Venezuela is a country in intense turmoil right now.”
Maddow’s attempt to link the protest in Venezuela to donations to Trump was also refuted by her fellow journalists just down the hallway at NBC News who wrote about the real reasons Venezuelans came out to the streets.Interestingly, MSNBC has sheepishly scrapped the unfortunate caption from the official website of Maddow’s show, where the show’s recordings are available, although come up short of issuing an apology. However, numerous recordings of the program on YouTube have shown the caption in its place.
You can watch the original airing below:
How could she even possibly come to the conclusion that these protests where somehow anti-Trump? Who knows, probably the same way she came to the conclusion that the 2005 Trump tax return she unearthed would somehow help her cause.
