After having blasted CNN as “fake news,” “very fake news,” and referring to them as the “Clinton News Network” in the past few months, they’ve finally released a poll for which the Trump administration will have to make an exception.
Following his first speech before Congress last night, even the alleged Clinton News Network ushered praise on the speech that was a stark contrast to Trump’s usual style.
After Trump honored the wife of slain NAVY Seal William “Ryan” Owens, CNN commenter Van Jones branded it the moment that Trump became the president of the United States. And their polling reflected the positive sentiment.
According to a new CNN/ORC poll of those who watched the speech, President Donald Trump’s first address to Congress received largely positive reviews from viewers, with 57 percent who tuned in saying they had a very positive reaction to the speech.
Nearly 7-in-10 who watched said the president’s proposed policies would move the country in the right direction and almost two-thirds said the president has the right priorities for the country. Overall, about 7-in-10 said the speech made them feel more optimistic about the direction of the country. On specific issues, Trump scored the highest marks for his proposed policies on the economy, with 72% saying those went in the right direction. Almost as many, 70%, said the same about his terrorism proposals. Slightly fewer, but still a majority, felt his policies on taxes (64%), immigration (62%) or health care (61%) were heading in the right direction.
Ideologically, about two-thirds saw Trump’s speech as about right, while roughly one-quarter (26 percent) pegged it as too conservative. Just 8 percent said it wasn’t conservative enough. While Trump did score below his predecessors George W. Bush and Barack Obama who polled at 66 percent and 68 percent respectively in those having “very positive” reactions to their first addresses to Congress, 78 percent had an overall positive of Trump’s speech.
As for the 70 percent that felt optimistic following the speech, anyone who checked their 401(k) balance today would’ve seen that the markets are optimistic too following the speech. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has soared nearly two percent today, reaching a new all-time high.
In fact, the Dow increase today is larger than the 3 (out of 8) times it increased following an Obama SOTU address, combined. So far we’re off to a good start.
