BREAKING: Hackers strike AGAIN

It’s election season – and apparently hacking season as well. The FBI acknowledged that Hillary Clinton’s private email server may have been compromised, and we know for a fact that the DNC was hacked, presumably by Russian state actors who handed the information over to Wikileaks. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) was also hacked, with the same perpetrators suspected to be behind it.

The biggest hack of them all has just been confirmed (and by biggest of all, I mean the largest hack in history), and it may have affected you this time.

Yahoo “has confirmed that a copy of certain user account information was stolen from the company’s network in late 2014 by what it believes is a state-sponsored actor,” the company posted on its investor relations page.

Yes – it took them nearly two years to realize that they had been hacked. That’s government level incompetence from a private company.

The stolen data include names, email addresses, telephone numbers, birthdays, hashed passwords, and some “encrypted or unencrypted security questions and answers.”

Yahoo believes that “at least” 500 million user account credentials were stolen, which would make it the biggest breach of all time, bigger than the MySpace breach of 427 million user accounts

The breach has turned out to be larger than previously expected. Recode’s Kara Swisher reported on Thursday that the breach could have implications for the $4.8 billion sale of Yahoo to Verizon. Some shareholders reportedly fear that it could change the price of the transaction.

Yahoo says that there is no evidence that the hacker still has access to Yahoo’s network or internal services.

The million dollar question remains: who is the state sponsored actor suspected to be behind the hack? The answer, and the political implications of it are bound to come out soon.
