Chicago gun violence achieves HORRIFIC new milestone

We’re only nine days into the new year, and Chicago is already on track to shatter its 2016 gun violence record. With a stunning 73 shooting victims thus far this year – and ironically, some of the strictest gun laws on the books – the city is vastly outpacing last year’s average of two homicides per day.

Sadly, in addition to those shot or injured in these crimes, Chicago has created another vulnerable population as casualties of the senseless violence: its children.

As reported by CNN:

“Before they go to kindergarten, children in Chicago learn to hit the floor at the sound of gunfire.

One child age 16 or younger is murdered in the city every week on average. This has been happening for more than a quarter century, police records show. Neither homes nor streets are safe. Those are the first and second most likely places to get murdered in Chicago since 2001.”

Let that sink in for a minute: 52 children per year. Over 25 years we’re looking at the murders of 1,300 children.

Interestingly, in the aftermath of a contentious presidential election cycle, where the catchphrase “safe space” became a joke, statistics show that for Chicago’s youngest, there is no such place.

The CNN article continues:

“Most murders in Chicago have occurred in homes and streets since 2001. Guns are used in 90 percent of the killings, according to Chicago police. The violence is not isolated to one neighborhood. Each dot shows the location of a homicide in a place considered a safe space – a home, an apartment, a front yard or porch – since 2001.”

Perhaps the greatest irony is Chicago’s currently under the watch of Obama crony Rahm Emanuel. And, though the city is President Obama’s hometown, it may be a President Trump who finally brings relief.

In his ‘Law and Order” speech, Donald Trump stated:

“The main victims of these riots are law-abiding African-American citizens living in these neighborhoods. It is their jobs, their homes, their schools and communities which will suffer as a result.”

In the speech, Mr. Trump mentioned Chicago’s issues directly, by saying:

“During the last 72 hours, while protestors have raged against the police here in Milwaukee, another 9 were killed in Chicago and another 46 were wounded. More than 2,600 people have been shot in Chicago since the beginning of the year, and almost 4,000 killed in President Obama’s hometown area since his presidency began.”

Later in the speech, Trump laid the blame for these problems directly at the feet of the Democratic Party:

“I am asking for the vote of every African-American citizen struggling in our country today who wants a different future.

It’s time for our society to address some honest and very difficult truths.

The Democratic Party has failed and betrayed the African-American community. Democratic crime policies, education policies, and economic policies have produced only more crime, more broken homes, and more poverty.”

In every urban area controlled by Democrats for decades, the same story of failed crime, educational, and economic policies has been replicated.

With this emphasis on ‘law and order,’ and with cabinet picks such as Betsy DeVos for Secretary of Education, one hopes to see a reverse in these bleak statistics.
