Is Van Jones, the once-disgraced former member of the Obama administration (he served as Obama’s “Special Advisor for Green Jobs” but was forced to resign after coming under fire for his affiliation with 9/11 conspiracy “truthers,” for calling Republicans “a**holes” and other acts) a closet Trump fan?
Probably not, but his recent comments no doubt have liberals everywhere wishing he’d shut up and stop with the truth-saying already.
Following Trump’s speech to the joint session of Congress last month Jones, whose given name is Anthony Kapel, drew the ire of progressives everywhere for his honesty during CNN’s live post-speech coverage. At the time Jones proclaimed that Trump “became President of the United States” along with other somewhat praise-worthy comments.
Those same liberal voices are not going to be a bit happy with his latest commentary about the commander in chief.
Having served up what should (but won’t) be a career-ending or at least tarnishing nothing-burger about Trump’s taxes, Rachel Maddow has become a national laughing stock. While Jones didn’t exactly laugh at his liberal media colleague, he did admit the obvious truth that Maddow’s “revelation” was actually good for Trump. The Blaze summed up the remarks:
“When MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow announced that she would be revealing President Donald Trump’s 2005 tax return Tuesday night, many liberals anticipated the documents would show that Trump isn’t as rich as he says he is, that he paid little to no federal income tax or that his companies have significant business dealings in Russia.
But none of that came to fruition. In fact, the documents, which consisted of two pages of the full return, revealed only that in 2005 Trump’s income was more than $150 million and that he paid $38 million in federal income taxes. The $38 million was on top of “paying tens of millions of dollars in other taxes such as sales and excise taxes and employment taxes,” according to one White House official.
Even liberal CNN commentator Van Jones, who previously served as an adviser to former President Barack Obama, admitted the Democrats no longer had a credible case.
“If all we get tonight,” Jones said, “is that Donald Trump paid $38 million to America’s government, that’s a good night for Trump.”
I’m sorry, there’s just really no way to — I was hoping and praying it would show that not only did he pay no taxes, he actually charged the government and got money back. I wanted something I could get excited about.
CNN host Anderson Cooper then said, jokingly, “What you wanted was that he was paid in [Russian] Rubles.”
Ignoring for the moment the admission that there are American citizens actually hoping and praying for bad or damaging things to happen to our president, Jones is to be commended for his honesty in publicly assessing and speaking something liberals in media aren’t exactly known for these days….the truth.
