University students who invited Ann Coulter to speak offer BRILLIANT plan B…

“He who laughs last laughs longest” may be a phrase relegated to fortune cookies but as the Ann Coulter saga at the University of California-Berkeley continues to play out, it may also be the tale of the student Republican group versus the University brass.

Last week we reported on the school’s decision to toss a wet blanket on the Berkeley Young America Foundation’s plans to have the outspoken conservative pundit come speak at the campus later this month. Citing campus police’s claims of threats against Coulter and their inability to guarantee safety, Dean of Students, Joseph Greenwell, issued a letter to Y.A.F. informing them of the decision to pull the plug on the event.

Now we’re learning those students may just lawyer up and drag UC-Berkeley into court. From The Hill:

“The students who initially invited Ann Coulter to speak at the University of California, Berkeley, are now threatening to sue the university if the conservative pundit is not allowed to appear.

In a letter sent to the university’s attorney, the attorney representing the Berkeley College Republicans says she will file a lawsuit if Coulter is not allowed to speak on campus on Thursday, the initial date of her scheduled event, according to The Associated Press. The school initially canceled her event over safety concerns, but quickly reversed, vowing to reschedule her speech for early May after finding a safe venue.”

School officials counter-offered the afternoon of May 2nd to host Coulter claiming it is a date and time they can provide an “appropriate, protectable venue.” Why? Because school is out that week!!  There are no classes at Berkeley the week of May 2nd it’s what’s known as Dead Week — a time when students are preparing for final exams with many leaving campus to head home, study, do a few loads of laundry and other things college students do when there are no scheduled classes for an entire week.

Coulter was on Fox News’ “Hannity” show Thursday and said, “You cannot impose arbitrary and harassing restrictions on the exercise of a constitutional right. None of this has to do with security.”

Never in the lifetimes of these college-aged people has America been more divided than it is now. Its impossible not to attribute that fact at least in part to the last administration.  Race-baiters on the internet daily claiming Jim Crow is back, bandana-sunglasses-and-hoodie wearing far-left facsists violently refuse to allow free speech often resorting to assault and arson in order shut it down. How is this not a part of the Obama legacy?

On Friday, writing on behalf of the Berkeley College Republicans, Harmeet Dhillon sent a letter to UC-Berkeley’s (interim) Vice Chancellor Stephen Sutton and it’s chief attorney Christopher Patti saying that if Coulter is not allowed to give a speech on campus April 27th, she will file a lawsuit in federal court citing the university’s violation of constitutional rights to free speech.

It is a sad day indeed when the birthplace of the Free Speech Movement, is morphing before our eyes into the cemetery of free speech on college campuses,” Dhillon wrote.

To that you can only say “amen.”
