3 STUPID environmental nut job predictions that didn’t come true

Back in 2008, ABC prepared a one-hour special called Earth 2100 which included a number of predictions for life on our planet (and our nation specifically) from 2015 to 2100. The program ultimately didn’t air until 2009, but that didn’t make the ridiculous predictions anymore accurate.

Presenter Bob Woodruff said the program “(put) participants in the future and (asked) them to report back about what it is like to live in this future world. The first stop is the year 2015.”

1. On June 8, 2015, a carton of milk was supposed to be $12.99. Actually, on that date it was more like $3.39.

2. Gas was supposed to reach over $9 a gallon. Right now we’re about $2.75 (frack on!)

3. Rising sea levels would put New York underwater. I haven’t been there recently, but…

Newsbusters says, The program showcased the terrible impact of global warming from 2015 through 2100. In the special, a “storm of the century” wiped out Miami. Other highlights included a destroyed New York City and an abandoned Las Vegas. By 2084, Earth’s population will apparently be just 2.7 billion.

We’re at around 7 billion now, so that means I guess the moon and Mars will be pretty darn crowded.

And they call US the fearmongers??

Notably absent from this future farce was the real threat posed by radical Islam — the beheadings, the persecution of Christians, the killing of women and children, the sex slave trade. No mention of the global threat posed by Iran possessing nuclear weapons. No mention of hegemonic threats from China or Russia. And amazingly! No prediction about Bruce Jenner.

In 2008, ABCNews.com breathlessly promoted the special by asking “Are we living in the last century of our civilization?” Unlike the 2015 predictions, that suggestion hasn’t (yet) been proven wrong.

Stay tuned.
